Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Joining Forces for Change and Awareness in
Global Fair Trade: Marketplace Coffee Company and the World Fair Trade
Organization partner together.
Washington,
Utah, USA - September 20, 2017 - Marketplace
Coffee Company and the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) celebrate
joining forces. Together they have created a campaign to support fair trade in
the coffee industry. The efforts will be focused on following WFTO’s strict
standards for fair trade and the inclusion of WFTO’s seal of approval on all of
Marketplace Coffee sleeves. Marketplace Coffee’s large customer base
worldwide, and WFTO’s strong following and rigorous code of ethics makes for a
perfect partnership to create a massive impact on fair trade practices. Making
a difference one cup of coffee at a time.
Working
as partners, Marketplace Coffee agrees to adhere
to these main principles created by the WFTO. They are as follows:
· Principle One:
Creating Opportunities for Economically Disadvantaged Producers.
· Principle Two:
Transparency and Accountability.
· Principle Three:
Fair Trading Practices. (10 Principles of Fair Trade, 2015)
About the World
Fair Trade Organization
“WFTO and its members
believe changing the practices in the supply chain to follow the 10
Principles of Fair Trade is the path to seeking trade justice and equity in the
international trading structures. To be able to deliver the promise of Fair
Trade, practices from the production to sale of products should pass the global
Fair Trade Standard set by WFTO. Fair Trade scrutiny should not only focus on
the production sphere but also on the buying behavior of organizations. This is
because for WFTO the burden of proving Fair Trade compliance covers the entire
supply chain, and is not the sole responsibility of producers.” (Our path to
fair trade, n.d.)
